New Yorker Roberta Freymann has been producing fun fabrics since 2003. What started with womens fashions, is now a collection that reaches into men's, children's and a home line. Hand block printing is a centuries old craft performed by the finest artisans in India. This painstaking process involves the application of raw mixed paints on fabric using handmade irons or woodblocks. Several blocks are used to create one print because each color in the design is applied separately. The printed fabrics are then carefully laid out to dry in the sun transforming the color of the paint from dull and muddy into brilliant hues.

Whenever I see work from a pinhole camera, I wonder why we've really had to move on to complex digital SLR's. These photos by Atsuko Morita are exquisite in person. I got to see them at the RayKo Photo Center this past weekend. Morita, still an undergrad, hailing from Japan has created cells of self portraits with the help of self constructed pinhole cameras shot from different perspectives. Her artist's statement includes, "Cells are the foundation, the building blocks of our existence but it takes the spirit or soul to give purpose and meaning as well as our personalities."

Q&A with Robert Novogratz

A really great book has a good story and amazing photos. The dynamic duo of Cortney and Robert Novogratz have achieved just that with their book, Downtown Chic. Rarely do you actually read the copy in these design books, but with this one, you do. The couple has written themselves into a life we would all like to live. One full of art, passion and lots of family. This book is worth getting. I'm also really happy to say that Robert answered a few of my Q&A questions today as well. Thank you, Robert! "9 By Design" House

Francesco Lagnese took some great shots the Novogratz family of Bravo's famed and newest docu-series "9 by Design". The husband and wife design team Bob and Cortney Novogratz, are owners of the NYC based design firm, Sixx Design. The houses that they remodel and design are impressive as is their ability to manage their family of 7 children - in Manhattan! Whether you watch the show or not, it's hard not to admire the creativity and love that come from these two hard working parents.
