Book Show at Eastside Projects

Currently showing at Birmingham England's Eastside Projects is: ‘Book Show’ is an exhibition of artworks, objects and structures that address the physical form of the book. The starting point for the exhibition is Ulises Carrión’s provocative series of aphorisms ‘The New Art of Making Books’ (1975). Carrión was the founder of Other Books and So in Amsterdam, a gallery and bookstore that during its short life (1975 to 1979) became the first major centre for the flourishing international artist-led publishing scene. Zachary Royer Scholz: Tape, Paint, Repaint

Baer Ridgeway Gallery has a special hallway exhibition space that sets the tone as you enter the building. Right now you can see Zachary Royer Scholz: Tape, Paint, Repaint showing from July 24 - October 16, 2010. It reminds me that tape should not be taboo in creating a graphic statement. Not all art has to come in a frame.

The artist statement includes: The piece uses the space’s existing architecture and painting’s most banal requirements as its starting point. Each component, including the materials and actions required to paint and erase the work, stands as an integral and equal aspect of the whole. By democratizing its constituent parts, the work exists as an interdependent multiplicity rather than a singular “piece.”

Work on Brown Paper

Drawings on brown paper are popping up all over the place. The earthy paper adds to the presentation. It also seems more approachable than canvas backed art pieces.

Artist, Domingos Totora

Brazil has a superstar talent in Domingos Totora. His pieces are a pleasant surprise in combining art and function. Seats, tables, decorative objects, he does it all and adds a sculptural element along the way.

Soft Tools by Objeti

Every room is made a little better with the introduction of different textures. Objeti has taken that notion to an unexpected place - your lighting. They mention on their site, "Soft Tools are a series of hand pressed, naturally dyed, felt pendant lamps. The Soft Tools forms are derived from the cutting tools used in Objeti’s workshop. The series consist of 3 shapes representing tools; Chamfer, Radius and Ball. Dimensions: DIA 18" Height 8" Objeti is a family affair and was founded in 2009 by Joseph Ribic (Designer) in collaboration with brother John Jr. (Production Manager) and father John Sr. (Production Engineer). The products are made in the U.S.A.

Henry Ford Reborn Through Fixtures

Waterworks has recently released pieces that pull from the old industrial designers and transform bathrooms into chic stations of work. The 33-piece collection, named after automaker and industrialist Henry Ford, is available in chrome, nickel or brass with accents in teak or marble.

Shop Tutze Home

Tutze Home was founded by Guido Morsink and Ilse of Meerakker. They state on their site, "We both like nice things and good living. But above all we are pleased to offer quality stuff and yet affordable. We are always looking for beautiful things and new brands for use around the house." Ilse also gives advice on interior design.

Shutter Love

Do you know Elodie & Karine Kong? They're French sisters living in London and Barcelona and Founders of concept store BODIE and FOU. This is a shot of one of their homes as seen in Casa Facile and I am gaga over those bright blue shutters. They look like bows on a gift!
